  • Johnny Sanderford sentenced for mistreatment of mentally handicapped man

    One of the three people charged with the mistreatment of a 51-year-old mentally handicapped man has been sentenced.

    Johnny Ray Sanderford, 34, of Bronson is serving a 3-year, 4-month sentence for false imprisonment and aggravated abuse of a disabled adult for punching the malnourished and handcuffed man. His anticipated release date is in 2012.

    The victim weighed between 80 to 100 pounds when found by deputies acting on an anonymous tip.

    One officer who saw the victim said he looked like a prisoner of war.

  • Chiefland man charged with burglary

    On July 13, Lt. Scott Tummond arrested Santiago Ruiz, 39, of Chiefland for armed burglary and grand theft.

    On July 8, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office responded to 15117 NW 46 Lane in Fowlers Bluff in reference to a reported burglary. The victim reported that unknown person(s) forcibly entered the residence by kicking the front door in. The suspect(s) stole Louis Vuitton luggage valued at 10,000, Men’s Cartier wrist watch valued at $ 5,000, jewelry and one firearm. The total loss was over $17,000 dollars.

  • Williston Police Department

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Roger D. Puckett, 38, of SW 2nd Street, Williston was charged with aggravated assault .

    • Eugene Francis Reynolds, 41, of Gainesille was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, times nine.

    • Nicholas A. Bunch, 20, of Gainesville was charged withdriving while license suspended or revoked, times four.

    • Joshua C. Bradshaw, 19, of NE 166th Ave., Williston was charged with no valid driver’s license.

     

  • Levy County Sheriff's Office

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • Kyle James Cyr, 20, of Bronson was charged July 9 with burglary of a residence after he allegedly removed a computer from a Bronson home. He was charged with two counts grand theft, two counts burglary and stolen property. Bond was $50,000.

    • Christian R. Vradenburgh, 30, of Bronson was charged July 4 with aggravated battery, battery and burglary. Bond was $40,000.

  • Burglary suspect in jail; investigation ongoing

    A Dixie County man is behind bars following an investigation in a series of multi-county burglaries.

    Donald Bernier, 40, of Old Town was arrested July 9 by Officer DJ Macy for unlawful possession of prescription medication, retail theft and resisting a merchant.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office has seen an increase in residential burglaries in the Chiefland area where the suspect(s) would steal guns, jewelry and big screen televisions.

  • Animal cruelty charges dropped

    Charges against Sandy M. McClung, 62, of Northeast 76th Place, Bronson, who was charged with aggravated assault and animal cruelty after an incident outside her home have been dropped due to lack of prosecutorial merit and the facts not constituting a criminal offense, according to the Levy County Sheriff’s Department.

  • Williston Police Reports

    The Williston Police Department reports the following arrests:

    • Kathryn J. Shroke, 23, of Morriston was arrested June 26 on a Gilchrist County warrant for Failure to Appear, petit theft.

    • Jeffrey Earl Stark, 45, of NE 10th Street was arrested June 24 for Driving While License Suspended or Revoked, with knowledge after he was pulled over in a traffic stop for allegedly running a stop sign on W. Noble Avenue.

  • Woman charged with disrupting church service

    A Bronson woman was arrested June 28 when she allegedly slapped a fellow church member during service.

    According to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Lucinda Mongo, 47, initiated a verbal altercation with another woman at Church of God by Faith at 360 Glover St., Bronson. When the woman told her she did not want to speak with her, Mongo slapped her hand.

    The victim told the deputy that she was so upset that she left the service. Several witnesses completed sworn statements regarding the incident.

  • Dunnellon man charged after Oasis Bar damaged

    When he couldn’t get cash from an ATM, a Dunnellon man allegedly took it out on the interior of the Oasis Bar in Morriston.

    On June 28, Levy County deputies answered a 911 call and upon arrival, Deputy Crooms was met with a man, who said, “Go ahead and take me to jail. I'm the guy you are looking for.”

    The bartender told the deputy that Anthony Mammarello, 46, did over $1,200 in property damage when he broke two televisions, destroyed a Budweiser bar light and threw a bar stool through the air condition ducts.

  • Teen critically injured in Friday wreck

    A single car accident June 3 left a Williston teenager in critical condition.

    According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Geremy G. Williams, 18, was traveling on County Road 316 around 11:40 a.m. when he lost control of his 2000 Toyota. The car traveled onto the east shoulder and overturned.

    The report states Williams was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car.

    Williams was transported by Levy County EMS to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in critical condition.
