  • Stolen Mustang leads police on two-county chase

    This past Monday, Williston Police officers responded to a new building under construction to a report of an auto theft.

    Upon the officers' arrival it was learned that a 2007 Ford Mustang Cobra had been stolen and the thief struck another car as he left the parking lot fleeing west on Noble Avenue.

    A short time later, a Levy County deputy observed the stolen car strike two more vehicles in Bronson. When the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the stolen car attempted to elude the deputy and drove east on US-27 toward Williston.

    • Jan. 8, Dale John Anderson, 64, Fanning Springs, two counts BUI, refusal to submit to DUI test after license suspended, BUI.

    • Jan. 4, Thomas Beal, 55, Fort Myers, burglary of  unoccupied dwelling, grand theft. Bond $40,000.

    • Nov. 19, James Waylon Cruce, 32, Cross City, burglary of a structure/conveyance, petit theft.

  • Would-be burglar breaks in with homeowner present

    The Levy County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who forcibly entered a home at NE 167 Terrace, Williston Sunday morning.

    The sheriff's office reports it was dispatched to the residence around 11: 30 a.m. when the homeowner called in a burglary.

    At the scene, the homeowner was visibly shaken as he told the deputies what had just occurred. 

    According to a press release, the man was working in his backwayrd when he heard a crash from the front of his home. 

  • Williston woman dies in head-on crash

    A Williston woman died Monday after the car she was driving was hit head-on by an SUV passing in a no passing zone.

    Michelle M. Anderson, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by Alachua County Fire Rescue at the collision site at SR 121/SW Wacahoota Road.

    According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Anderson was traveling south in her 2001 Honda Accord when Calvin Lee Adams III, 29, of Crystal River attempted to pass a line of vehicles in a no passing zone.
