  • Holiday weekend nets 90 arrests

    Col. David Brierton, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, today announced the preliminary results from the Patrol’s Independence Day holiday enforcement effort.  During the four-day heightened enforcement period, FHP increased the number of troopers patrolling Florida’s roadways. Auxiliary troopers augmented FHP’s force. 

  • Gunman gets lighter sentence in home invasion

    The last man to be sentenced in the armed home invasion of a residence outside Williston in February was given a total of 10 years time as arranged with the state attorney’s office.

    Hillary Henderson, 20, of Chiefland, who pleaded to a charge of armed home invasion and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, was given seven years in prison on the first charge to be served after serving a minimum 3 years on the gun charge.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    July 9, Nicholas Lee Bailey, 21, Bronson, schedule 1, II or III drugs. Bond $15,000.

    July 6, Melissa Ann Bell, 29, Springhill, possession of cocaine, DWLS, false ID five to LEO, abuse without great harm. Bond $36,000.

    July 8, Linda Mae Collins, 50, Chiefland. Bond $1,000.

    July 6, Dwayne Wesley Deedrick, 50, Bronson, second offense,  deadly weapon without intent to kill, obstruction w/o violence. Bond $110,000.

  • Courts hand down sentences

    Levy County courts handed down the following dispositions in March:
    Tonya Boyatt, fraud and grand theft, 24 months with credit for 46 days served on each; VOP on dealing in stolen property, probation revoked, 24 months with credit for 104 days served, served concurrently. Must pay civil judgment and $926.65 restitution.
    Alvin Curtis Brooks, VOP on three counts of sex offense against a child, reinstate probation, 180 days with credit for 53 days served, served concurrently. Must pay civil judgment, jail fund and VOP costs.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    • June 30, Reginald Ventrell Adams, 48, Chiefland, cause bodily harm, obstruction w/o violence, battery, possession. Bond $30,000.
    • June 30, Carl Appling, 45, Williston, DWLSR.
    • June 28, Mandy Raye Ashley, 31, Williston, unoccupied structure, petit theft-12 counts, altering public record-11 counts, altered instrument-13 counts, uttering false instrument, misrepresenting self-11 counts. Bond $380,000.
    • June 30, Jessica Danielle Barlow, 22, Gainesville, DWLSR.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:
    June 20, Princeo Laquinton Altidor, 22, Bradenton, VOP battery on LEO.
    June 25, Justin Wayne Bingaman, 23, Trenton, domestic battery.
    June 25, Sammy Dewayne Carr, 44, Old Town, DWLSR with knowledge, no vehicle registration.
    June 20, Lawrence Carter, 53, Gainesville, FTA possession of marijuana. Bond $2,000.
    June 22, Drew Joshua Bennett, 24, Perry, VOP grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

  • DUI checkpoint this weekend

    The Williston Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint in the 200 block of West Noble Avenue beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 1 and ending at 2 a.m. Saturday, July 2.

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the follow arrests:
    June 17, Jonathan Maurice Allen, 23, Chiefland, DWLSR knowingly.
     June 18, James Devon Baker, 45, Morriston, domestic battery.
     June 19, Stephen Michael Baker, 19, Inglis, assault with a deadly missile.
    June 14, James Terah Barker, 27, Bronson, domestic battery and felony battery by strangulation. Bond $25,000.
    June 19, Roger Leo Bergeron, 46, Inglis, domestic battery. Bond $2,000.
