    June 10, James Edward Foster, 27, Chiefland, petit theft, criminal mischief, burglary of vehicle. Bond $9,000.
    June 10, Jonathan Dwight Kirkland, 20, Chiefland, false information to law enforcement and petit larceny. Bond $2,500.
    June 7, Dorothy Mae Raynor, 36, Williston, child abuse/neglect. Bond $20,000.

  • Make a difference in a child’s life

     Be the difference in a child’s life.  Volunteer as an advocate for neglected or abused children.  The next class starts June 20.   • Crime is up in Levy County

    Gov. Rick Scott may be crowing about Florida having its  lowest crime rate in 30 years in 2010 with a drop of 6.6 percent, but Levy County experienced a 4.1 percent increase in crime.

    The numbers released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Monday come from crime report information submitted by local law enforcement agencies to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. 

    According to the report:

    • Population went from an estimated 40,674 residents to 41,451 in 2010

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests:

    • May 8, Valrize Latrice Bristol, 31, Dunnellon, DUI, DWLSR, leaving scene of accident with personal injury. Bond $46,000.

    • May 6, Jeffery Blake Browning, 52, Dunnellon, RWV, disorderly intoxication and corruption by threat against a public servant. Bond $21,000.

    • May 3, James Stevenson Ellerby, 45, Chiefland, aggravated assault. Bond $50,000.

    • Miranda Lee McClain, 19, Bronson, VOP retail theft. Bond $5,000.

    April 27, Gary Ryan Booth, 26, Pensacola, possession of controlled substance. Bond $5,000.

    April 27, Christopher Nicholas Britt, 24, Pensacola, two counts possession of controlled substance. Bond $15,000.

  • Sheriff adds two dispatchers

    The Levy County Sheriff’s Office, which has been trying to find money to hire more dispatchers for its busy communications center found the answer next door at the jail.
    Maj. Evan Sullivan, head of law enforcement, requested and received unanimous approval to move $41,157.18 from the jail budget to the dispatch budget during Tuesday’s regular County Commission meeting.
