  • Law enforcement deaths up 24 percent in 2014

     Law enforcement fatalities in the U.S. rose 24 percent in 2014, reversing what had been two years of dramatic declines in line of duty deaths, based on preliminary data compiled and released today by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF).

  • Jury finds for Citizen in Andrews’ suit

       A Levy County jury has unanimously decided the Chiefland Citizen did not damage Andy Dennis Andrews’ name, reputation and businesses in a 2007 editorial calling for fair, clean city elections, and a series of stories about a state investigation into 11 voters’ right to vote in Chiefland elections.

  • Man admits to police he maimed his dog

    A Williston man came into the Williston Police Department Saturday and reported he had cut the ears off his dog.

  • Courts hand down sentences

    Levy County courts disposed of the following cases April 16, April 23, April 24, May 7, May 14:

    Vincent Louis Baker, VOP on destroying evidence, dismissed.  

    David Bezanson, possession of paraphernalia, 35 days with credit for 35 days served; possession of controlled substance, 35 days with credit for 35 days served, 24 months drug offender probation; served concurrently. must pay probation cost, civil judgment, jail fund.

  • Two injured in Hwy. 27 crash

    Emergency personnel got to use their extrication skills when a two vehicle accident on Tuesday, Oct. 21, shortly after 12:30 p.m. at U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 335A trapped the occupants in the vehicles.
