  • CFEC hands out scholarships

    Central Florida Electric Cooperative recently announced the winners of the Educational Charity Scholarship Program. Ten scholarships were awarded in all, and these students receive $1,000 toward furthering their education in an accredited university, community college or trade school.

    The scholarship winner from Williston High School was Dylan ODell, and from Dunnellon High School, the winner was Nichole Zarkowski.

  • Iee^Need a Vacation debuts May 28

    The Second Grade Classes of Joyce Bullock Elementary will present “I Need A Vacation!” Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. in the Williston High School Auditorium. This program celebrates the coming of summer vacation, with each of the nine second grade classes presenting a different vacation destination.

    Everyone is invited to come and enjoy these young performers as they celebrate the end of their Joyce Bullock Elementary careers with this entertaining program.

    They will also perform for the JBE student body Thursday morning.

     

  • Third grade FCAT scores down countywide

    The Florida Department of Education released the results of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test in reading and math for third-graders last Thursday.

    The results show that 68 percent of Levy County students in reading and 77 percent in math meet or exceed expectations for their grade level. This year’s results are down from 2008, which showed that 74 percent of Levy students in reading and 79 percent in math met or exceeded expectations.

  • Local students receive monthly honors

    At Tuesday evening’s Williston City Council meeting, Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat presented the council’s May Student of the Month awards.

    Hadley Etheridge, a first grader at Joyce Bullock Elementary School, is the daughter of Todd and Danielle Etheridge.

  • Levy writing scores good, flu not bad

    Results are in for FCAT writing tests, and the news is good. For the most part, county schools in all three grade levels performed near or above the state mean score for the test.

    The Teachers of the Year are chosen by their peers at each school. The District honorees are chosen by a panel of the teachers who received the award the previous year.

    Following are brief profiles of the employees of the School Board of Levy County who have been selected as the 2009-2010 Educational Staff Professionals (ESPs) of the Year at each school, and the individual selected from that group to be District ESP of the Year.

    The ESPs of the Year are chosen by their peers at each school. The District honorees are chosen by panels of the ESPs who received the award the previous year.

  • WES teacher chosen as Levy's Best

    A Williston Elementary School teacher has been named Levy County’s Teacher of the Year.

    Ana L. Armbrister teaches 4th Grade at WES. According to a news release from the School Board office, she has been teaching in Levy County since August 2004 and was unanimously chosen “Teacher of the Year” by her peers.

    She cosponsors the WES Safety Patrols and serves as a member of the School Advisory Council and Parent Teacher Organization.
