The Levy County 4-H Livestock Judging Team recently attended livestock judging competitions at State level. The Senior Team placed second and earned the qualification to attend the National Livestock Judging Competition in Denver Colorado.

The 4-H Senior Team members are: Krystal Munnerlyn in the front (Chiefland 4-H); from back left to right: Ella Merrill (Morriston Cowpokes 4-H), Jaden Fant (Morriston Cowpokes 4-H), and Tevin Mills (DoubleSink 4-H).

Take advantage of back-to-school specials now and buy school supplies to help the Levy Schools Foundation Stuff the Bus on Aug. 15.

All supplies collected will be distributed among the county’s teachers for use by Levy County students.

In Williston, a bus will be at Hitchcock’s Foodway from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and in Bronson it will be at the Buy N Save Grocery.

Cash donations are welcomed and will be used to buy supplies in bulk.

• Erasers

In last week’s Levy County School Board meeting, Director of Curriculum Patrick Wnek presented this year’s changes to the Student Code of Conduct. Among those changes was a ban on using digital cameras, cellphone cameras or digital video recorders during the school day to capture images of teachers, staff or students without permission. This week, Wnek and Director of Administration Jeff Edison, who led the research on the updates, clarified the rule.

New Levy County Schools Assistant Superintendent Gina Tovine is already hip-deep in addressing the greatest challenges affecting area schools. Tovine spoke at Tuesday’s school board meeting, giving an update on Florida Schools Accountability policy.

Florida Department of Education recently released school grades, and the news was mostly good. District-wide, there has been steady improvement, with Levy County gaining steadily in points each year and earning a grade of “B” again this year.
