• WMS open house Sept. 8

    Williston Middle School Principal Pamela Asbell, says she is “hired up and fired up” for another great year in 2011-12, and there are several upcoming opportunities to get parents and students ready as well.
     A back to school rally was held last Saturday in the WMS cafeteria, hosted by the community, to put school supplies in the hands of needy students, along with great information and advice to help students “Soar” this coming year.

  • WHS open house tonight (Thursday)

    On Thursday, Aug. 18, WHS will be having an Open House from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  This will be a chance for students and parents to meet both new and returning staff members and visit classrooms.
    A few changes this year include dress code rules, food and drink rules, and some changes in the attendance policy.  Students will find a more controlled campus with more student accountability.  All students will be given a Student Planner/Agenda to assist with organization.

  • Back-to-School Jamboree is Saturday

    The 17th Annual Back-to-School Jamboree will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 4-6 p.m. at the Williston Middle School. 
    This event is designed to promote school readiness and to show our support and commitment to education.  All parents, students, teachers, and administrators are invited to attend.  Come and receive valuable information about important services being offered; door prizes; refreshments and free school supplies for all grades.

  • Learn about 4-H at the Roundup

    Each year the Levy County 4-H opens its year by having a Roundup.  Round-up marks the official first day of the 4-H year for Levy County youth and volunteers.  This year it will be on Saturday, Aug. 27.
    The morning will begin at 8 a.m. with the Hartley Barbecue contestants registering to compete for making the best barbecue chicken.  There are three age categories and the winners receive checks and awards.  For more information on the Barbecue contest please contact Muriel or Lacy at 486-5131.

  • WES has new tardy policy

    New Tardy and Checkout Policy for Williston Elementary School Students
    This policy was approved by the Levy County School Board at the meeting  Aug. 2.
    1. A tardy is defined as an arrival to class or school after the designated starting time or the tardy signal has sounded. Reasons for excused tardies are the same as for excused absences.
    2. Parents must follow the same process to excuse a tardy or early check out as they do to excuse an absence.

  • School board approves lower budget, millage



    Near the end of a meeting in which the School Board of Levy County approved, among other things, a tentative millage and budget for 2011-12, board member Cameron Asbell of Bronson offered up a cost-savings idea.

    Asbell didn’t prepare any notes to introduce his idea before Tuesday night, all he did was hold up the more than 100 sheets of paper he had been handed during the two-plus hour meeting. It was timely considering lack of funding was discussed several times.

  • Council honors May Students of the Month

    At its first meeting in May, Williston City Council and Mayor Gerald Hethcoat saluted May Students of the Month.

    Sabrina Spearin, was chosen from Williston Elementary School.

    The fifth grader is the daughter of Daniel Spearin.

  • Star Gazing

    At the request of 5th grade Alpha teacher Kathy Brewington, members of the Alachua Astronomy Club brought two telescopes to the campus of Williston Elementary School recently so her students and those in Steve Van Zwienen’s class could look at the “star,” the earth’s sun.
