  • Students of the Month honored

    Williston Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat presented Student of the Month awards to four youngsters at Tuesday night's council meeting. Each school is represented by one child, nominated by the administration and faculty at the school.

    Each plaque contains the text of the nomination letter submitted by the school.

    Kami Dawn McCormick, daughter of Lawrence and Kellie McCormick, is a first-grader at Joyce Bullock Elementary School, which she represents as May's student of the month.

  • Local girl earns trip to D.C.

    Each year Clay Electric selects four high school juniors to enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. during the nation's Youth Week in June. Arielle Claude of Williston High School was selected as a winner in this year's Youth Tour to Washington Contest and will spend a week in Washington D.C. June 14-19.

    The three other winners who will join Claude are Lauren Moore of Fleming Island High School, Drew Burgett of Santa Fe High School and Clint Williams of Union County High School.

  • City honors students

    At Tuesday night's City Council meeting, Williston Mayor Gerald Hethcoat presented the April Student of the Month awards to young people from the city's four public schools.

    Ryan M. Kline, first grade, Joyce Bullock Elementary, son of Michael and Diane Kline. He was nominated by Mrs. Milton and Mrs. Griffith, who made the following comments.

  • Local elementary school to feature health program

    This spring, University of Florida faculty and students, in conjunction with the Levy County Public Health Department, will conduct a no-cost healthy lifestyle program for children and families in Levy County.

    Family Lifestyle Intervention Project for Kids, or FLIP for Kids, is led by David Janicke, Ph.D., and Ellen Lopez, Ph.D., assistant professors in the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions, and is supported by a contract from the Florida Area Health Education Network.

  • Students of the Month honored

    The Williston City Council presented its first Student of the Month awards at its Tuesday evening meeting.

    The council decided recently to honor outstanding students at each of the Williston schools on a monthly basis to underline the importance of education and to recognize those young people who embody the best of Williston.
