  • WES students help families in need

    This year, instead of having children draw names and swap gifts for the holidays, 4th graders in Mrs. Joelene Vining and Mrs. Melissa Lewis' class at Williston Elementary School purchased gifts for a family in need within the Williston community.

    The teachers contacted the First United Methodist Church in Williston to "adopt" two families for Christmas.

    Students were then asked to bring gifts for the families and had the opportunity to wrap the gifts on the last day of school before the holiday break.

  • Students of the Month honored

    Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat presented the January 2009 Student of the Month awards at Tuesday evening’s city council meeting.

    Each student is awarded a personalized certificate of achievement and a coupon for a pizza from King Munchie’s.

    From Joyce Bullock Elementary school, the designee is Kindergartener Maclayne McGowan, daughter of Paul and Scarlett McGowan. Maclayne was nominated by Mrs. Cecillia Edwards, her teacher, who made the following comments:

  • CFCC's CNA program holds graduation

    Central Florida Community College recognized 13 students who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the CFCC Levy Center on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

    Receiving Certificates of Completion were Elsie Couch, Joyce Doyle, Elaine Gore, April Hudson, Nicole Jones, Tiffany Jordan, Sabrina Lindy, Hannah McRoberts, Rosiea Nichols, Shaina Strickland, Nicholas Swoboda, Letha Wright and Josephine Ylagan. Receiving recognition for perfect attendance were Doyle, Hudson, Jones, Jordan, Swoboda, Ylagan, McRoberts and Strickland. A Special Achievement Award was presented to Swoboda.

  • Students of the Month honored

    Three Williston school students were honored by Mayor Gerald Hethcoat last week as Students of the Month for December.

    Everett Warren, Joyce Bullock Elementary first-grader, son of Curt and Karen Warren, was nominated by Mrs. Griffith, his teacher, who made the following comments:

  • Homecoming parade is Nov. 6

    Homecoming week at Williston High School is Nov. 3-7. This year's theme is super heroes.

    Dress-up days include:

    Monday, college day.

    Tuesday, twin/alternate personality day.

    Wednesday, wacky tacky day.

    Thursday, superhero/villain day.

    Friday, spirit day.

    Events include the powder puff football game on Monday, the parade at 5 p.m. on Thursday with a community pep rally and skits following the parade, and the homecoming game on Friday night against Santa Fe. There will be a barbecue at the school Friday from 5-7 p.m.

  • 14 graduate from CNA training

    Central Florida Community College recognized 14 students who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the CFCC Levy Center on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

    Receiving Certificates of Completion were Brittany Arrington, Kathleen Basham, Samantha Davis, Casey Ford, Amanda Hodge, Kristen Holland, Christina Judd, Gabriella Knapp, Jody Knight, Laura Odom, Morgan Perryman, Bernadette Preble, Kimberly Robinson, and Kimberly Shelton. Receiving recognition for perfect attendance were Kathleen Basham, Kristen Holland, Kimberly Robinson and Kimberly Shelton.

  • Students of the Month honored

    Williston Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat presented the October Student of the Month awards at Tuesday evening's City Council meeting.

    Students are nominated by teachers or administrators at each of Williston's schools. Each honoree receives a personalized certificate of accomplishment and a gift card for a pizza donated by King Munchie's.

  • Stuff the Bus held

    Last Saturday was the day for Levy County residents to "Stuff the Bus," providing school supplies for local teachers to help their students. From the left, Lydia Bridges, her daughter Maycie, and Margie Zanders of Williston Middle School accepted donations at Hitchcock's in Williston.

  • WES gets new mower

    Thanks to the concerted efforts of many, Williston Elementary has a new lawn mower! Now that the heavy rains from Tropical Storm Fay have subsided, head custodian Sammie White will have plenty of time to get the hang of handling the new red Gravely.

  • Williston Elementary parents to meet teachers

    Williston Elementary School will hold a "Meet the Teacher" day on Friday, Aug. 15, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

    The school will have an open house on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A full group assembly for parents and grade level teachers will take place in the multi-purpose room at the following times: 5:30 for fifth grade, 6:30 for third grade and 7:30 for fourth grade. Special area teachers will be introduced and then will proceed to their classrooms to meet the parents and answer questions. After School/SES Providers will be set up in the Media Center.
