  • Students of the Month honored

    Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat presented the April Student of the Month awards at the Williston City Council meeting on April 7.

    One student from each school is honored each month and receives a personalized certificate of excellence plus a coupon for a pizza provided by King Munchies.

    Adam Sistrunk, a kindergartner at Joyce Bullock Elementary School, is the son of Robert and Catrina Sistrunk.

  • WES teacher instills confidence for FCAT

    With the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test right around the corner, one third grade teacher wanted her students to realize they were ready for the FCAT! So she decorated one of her bulletin boards with the face of a “cat” with these words above it: “We’re not afraid of a little ole kitty!”

    Then the students drew their own faces which came with their own “talking bubble” wherein they could write phrases that expressed their level of confidence: “Bring it on!” and “It’s just like a little quiz.”

  • Students of the Month honored

    At the March 3 City Council meeting, Council President Debra Jones, substituting for Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat, recognized a student from each Williston school as the student of the month for March 2009.

    Miranda Milton, a second grader at Joyce Bullock Elementary School, is the daughter of Charles and Kim Milton.

    She was nominated by Laura Hunt, her teacher, who made the following comment: “Miranda is a bright young lady who enjoys learning and always strives to do her best.

  • Students connect art and math

    Besides all those geometric shapes students can find in those prints of famous paintings, what else can they learn from art? In the art classroom of Helen Darling, art teacher at Williston Elementary School, Ocala artist Connie Ferreira recently shared her vast knowledge about polymer clay as she engaged the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for eight days during an "artist-in-the-school program," jointly funded by the Florida Arts in Education program (using matching funds from the School Board of Levy County), the Linda Green Proctor Memorial Fund and the Williston Art League.

  • Gala gets $13,000 for Levy County schools

    When all was said and done after Saturday night’s 2009 Superintendent’s Gala, the Levy County Schools Foundation raised approximately $13,000 for scholarships for area students. The Gala, held this year at Chiefland Elementary, was attended by 240 community members and featured live music by the Central Florida Community College Patriot Jazz Combo.

    Two additions to the program this year included an award for outstanding alumni and a memorial scholarship for aspiring teachers.

  • Family Fun Night held at JBES

    Here at Joyce Bullock Elementary we strongly believe that learning begins at home and view our role in education as complementary to the educational experiences children have at home. In order to integrate the home/school experience we have designed Family Fun Nights three times per year. These nights are designed to keep parents in the loop of what students are learning here at school.

  • FFA team invited to Tallahassee

    Williston Senior FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team members were recently invited to do a demonstration for the Department of Education to celebrate the kick off of Career and Technical Education Month.

  • Ninth annual Superintedent's Gala is Feb. 7

    The Levy County Schools Foundation (LCSF) will be hosting its ninth annual Superintendent’s Gala on Saturday, Feb. 7. The event, which includes dinner and musical entertainment, will take place at 6 p.m., at Chiefland Elementary.

    The Gala is the premier fund-raiser for the Levy County Schools Foundation, a not-for-profit organization established in 1989 to support Levy County schools. The event has become a Levy County tradition, providing an opportunity for members of the business community, civic leaders, and local residents to gather in support of local education.
