O's So Sweet, the new ice cream and sandwich shop located at South Main Street and Southwest First Avenue, held its grand opening on Saturday.

The long-time dream of Melanie Burchett has taken shape in the former quarters of McMillen Surveying at 40 S. Main St., across from police headquarters.

The shop is named after Olivia, Burchett's 3-year-old daughter.

In keeping with the '50s theme of the shop, an Elvis impersonator entertained and proud owners displayed classic cars.

The AT&T Gainesville Telecom Pioneers, Florida Telephone Retirees, and the Gainesville Sunshine Clowns joined together to deliver 175 ditty bags along with 80 hug-a-bears to the V.A. hospital in Gainesville on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day. The ditty bag contained personal items such as socks, handkerchiefs, tooth paste, tooth brush, writing paper, envelopes, stamps, playing cards, puzzles and other items.

Members of the Levy County Enterprise Zone Development Agency (EZDA) Board of Directors voted 5-0 on Jan. 9 to recommend Berlon Weeks be appointed to the board.

The Levy County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to hear the recommendation on Jan. 22.

If the commission accepts the recommendation, then Weeks will fill the remaing term of Robert Lowyns who resigned.

A Williston business owner watched the Jan. 9 meeting of the Enterprise Zone Development Agency because she wanted to learn about benefits from building in the zone.

Cindy Babione has been working with her husband Jeff for the past two years to create Babione's Business Park, she said. They hope to break ground in February, she added.
