  • Walk to Bethlehem saw more than 500 visitors

    The last caravan for 2008 left Nazareth for the 80 mile journey to Bethlehem on Tuesday evening. More than 500 visitors joined in the numerous trips that either Pastor Dana or Callie Fields, from sponsoring church Living Water Life Center of Morriston, led over the 15-day annual event held on their property located on Hwy 121. Although the number of visitors was lower than last year; the event was blessed with 75 -100 volunteers from other churches willing to be in costume and serve in many capacities.

  • New mobile equine service helps manage breeding

    GAINESVILLE — A mobile service for equine reproduction at the University of Florida aims to better serve area horse breeders while simultaneously moving students at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine more frequently into the field.

    “The approach to medicine on the road is different than in the hospital, regardless of what service you are associated with,” said Scott Bailey, D.V.M., a Kansas State University veterinary alumnus who recently completed his residency in theriogenology at UF’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

  • 5,000 Pound Challenge starts Feb. 21

    The Levy County Wellness Coalition (LCWC) is hosting a 5,000 Pound Challenge that will kick off Feb. 21 from 9 a.m.-noon at Nature Coast Regional. The kickoff event will feature a farmer's market, health screenings, a walk/run event, and more! The Challenge aims to provide opportunities for healthy living throughout the county such as nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation, heart attack and stroke prevention, community gardening, and much more through December 2009.

  • Bark-N-Purr cooking event planned

    The Humane Society of Levy County invites all barbecue cooks to participate in the second annual Bark-N-Purr Charity Barbecue Cook-Off sponsored by the Florida BBQ Association on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Bronson Youth League Park.

    Cooking teams may choose to cook any or all of the following four categories: chicken, ribs, pork or brisket. The first prize winner will receive $300 and a trophy; the second prize winner will receive $200 and a trophy and the third prize winner will receive $100 and a trophy.

    registration

    The Williston Youth Athletic Association has listed the following meeting and registration times.

    We will be having a workday on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. and another on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 9 a.m.

    Sign-ups for t-ball, baseball, softball and soccer will be on Jan. 17, 22 and 24 at the park. Registration is $75 for baseball and softball and $65 for t-ball and soccer. A copy of your child’s birth certificate is needed. Any questions call Mari at 528-4329 or Cathy at 528-4487.

    On Dec. 6, Tri-County Pregnancy Center held its third annual Christmas Toy Giveaway. This year’s Giveaway was a record breaker for the Center.
