  • Trevor Baldwin and Joan Williamson were married in the Registry office at Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England Dec. 3, 1960.

    The couple came to the United States in March 1979 after his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy after 25 years of service. He then became a self-employed subcontractor for the major company installatons over most of Florida for a number of years.

    Jazz Concert

    The Gainesville Friends of Jazz will present “An Evening of Latin Jazz” featuring pianist Chuchito Valdes Tuesday, Nov. 30 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship located at 4225 NW 34th Street in Gainesville.
    Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. The fee is $20 general admission, $15 GFOJ members and $10 Students.

  • It was just a couple of hours into the New Year, 1945, when Ray Knisley, 86, of Chiefland, peeked out of a freezing foxhole after being awakened by the sound of gunshots.
    His unit, the 117th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mecz), had been dug in about 30 miles south of Strasbourg, Germany. There was snow on the ground, and in the light of a full moon he thought he saw a patrol coming in with German prisoners.  He hunkered back in to put on his boots and a jacket

    Dan Pinkston and Crystal Wilson Pinkston of Williston announce the birth of a son, Colby Daniel born Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:42 p.m.
    The baby weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.
    Grandparents are Carl and Martha Pinkston of Williston and Henry and Annette Wilson of Cross City.

  • Fish Fry
    Holy Family Catholic Church will hold its monthly fish fry Friday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.
    Plates are $7 for adults; $6 for senior 70 and older and $4 for youth 12 and under. You may eat in or take out.
    The church is located on Hwy. 27A west of Williston.

    Weekly Prayer  Meeting
    Concerned citizens will be meeting once a week at the Community Center at City Hall to pray for Williston.  The meeting will be held each Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. starting on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

    Genealogy Society

  • Howard R. Cook and Helen R. Grant were married in Coeymans Hollow Methodist Church in New York Aug. 25, 1950. The couple recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner hosted by their children Laura (Cal) Byrd), Jeffrey (Paulette) Cook and Susanna (Butch) Benka and held at daughter Laura’s home. The dinner was attended by their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

    Air Force Airman Brittni V. Davis graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
