Williston police officers have recovered a World War II-era Japanese machine gun as a result of a traffic stop which led to the arrest of two women on drug charges.
Abby Ross of the unit block of Regina Boulevard, Beverly Hills, and Traci Bower of the 11000 block of North Williams Street, Dunnellon, were charged initially with drug paraphernalia and illegal drug possession.
The women were stopped for a routine speeding violation when Cpl. Kevin Sheppard spotted a crack pipe protruding from Bower's bra. A search of the vehicle revealed an assortment of prescription pills with a street value of $1,675 and a rare Nambu machine gun, which allegedly was owned by Bower's grandfather. The history of the weapon is being researched.
Both women were transported to the Levy County Jail on the date of the arrest, Thursday, June 5. The location of the arrests was the 100 block of Northeast 11th Avenue, Williston.
