Williston Middle School Principal Pamela Asbell, says she is “hired up and fired up” for another great year in 2011-12, and there are several upcoming opportunities to get parents and students ready as well.
A back to school rally was held last Saturday in the WMS cafeteria, hosted by the community, to put school supplies in the hands of needy students, along with great information and advice to help students “Soar” this coming year.
Next Thursday, Aug. 18, from 3- 4:30, students may pick up their schedules and locate their classes, or come to the WMS front office anytime from 8:30 until 11:30 on Friday, Aug. 19, to get a guided tour provided by the WMS Junior Beta Club. If parents and students are not available at these times, students will still get off to a great start with special plans for the first day of school.
On Aug. 22, beginning at 8:30 a.m., sixth grade students will gather in the cafeteria, seventh graders will meet in the gym, and all eighth grade students will meet in the media center. When the first bell rings, teachers will gather their homeroom students and usher them to the classroom, where class schedules and other essential orientation information will be provided.
An official Open House, first SAC meeting, and Annual Title 1 Meeting is scheduled for Sept. 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m., to share important information about the school’s progress and grade level curriculum expectations.
“We are ready,” Asbell says, “and eagerly waiting to get started. We know that as an “A” school, with 90 percent AYP, we have a lot of work to do to maintain our outstanding record.”
