To the editor:
Today, I went to the Williston High School Ag Lab hoping to find some start-up plants for my garden.
This facility is one of Williston’s best kept secrets.
To my surprise and delight, I found a new state-of-the-art green house packed with available plants. You can see your tax dollars at work right here in Williston as a state grant funded this addition and is making a big difference in our community and in the lives of our young people.
The director and lead teacher for these young students is Chris Wilder. His enthusiasm for his profession and his dedication to these young people is immediately evident in the agricultural programs he directs. He and the students work diligently to provide plants for many seasons at extremely reasonable prices, while learning about horticulture and landscaping techniques along with many life skills.
Presently, the students have start-up coleus, begonias, impatiens and geranium available to name a few. Both individual plants and beautiful baskets are ready for anyone looking to instantly beautify their home and garden.
The students are very proud of their new green house facility and welcome you to “come on down” for a visit.
Please call the Williston High School Ag Department for the best hours to have a short tour. You will be impressed by what these young students and their teachers have accomplished. Let’s praise the positive successes of our young people and their mentors.
So, forget those big box garden centers in Gainesville and Ocala and help support our community and future leaders by purchasing homegrown Williston beauties at our own Williston Secret Garden.
