With some of there varsity basketball players still with the gridiron team in the state playoffs, the Newberry Panthers opened their 2012-13 basketball season by hosting the Williston Red Devils.
The Red Devils wasted little time, and got off to a quick start against the under manned Panthers.

The Red Devils began the second half with an approach to their defensive game, as they held the Panthers to just eight third quarter points, while taking a 63-38 lead.
Playing every player on the bench through out the second half, the Red Devils put their defense in high gear in the fourth and final quarter completely shutting the Panthers down and not allowing them a single fourth quarter point while scoring 16 points of their own, taking a clock running 79-38 win.
This was the season opening game for both teams. The Red Devil defense held the Panthers’ Strawder to just onesecond half point.
Strawder finished with a game high 20 points of the Panthers 38. Strange and Wilson led the Red Devils in scoring with 17 points each. Brown and Porter had 14 points each to round out the Red Devils scoring.
