At least one city councilor will not be seeking re-election when qualifying begins Monday, Jan. 14 in Williston.
Norm Fugate, elected to the city in council in 2011, tendered a letter of resignation Tuesday stating that his scheduling conflict as the attorney for Cedar Key would allow him to only attend one Williston council meeting between now and the end of his term in April.
His resignation was accepted and became effective at the beginning of Tuesday night’s meeting.
Three posts will be up for grabs this year and potential candidates will qualify between noon Jan. 14 and noon Jan. 18.
• Group A is the seat formerly held by Fugate.
• Group B is the seat once filled by Marc Nussel. After Nussel’s resignation in the fall of 2011, Elihu Ross was appointed to the position.
• Group C is the seat filled by Jerry Robinson, who resigned in July 2012. Cal Byrd was appointed to fill that chair.
The city council is accepting applications for persons interested in filling Fugate’s unexpired term–about three months.
Applications are available at city hall and will be accepted through Jan. 17.
Potential electors must have lived in the city limits for one year.
