Williston Police officers pursued and apprehended an Archer man Monday night when he refused to stop after coming out from behind a church at 1:50 a.m.

Thomas Fletcher of the 7200 block of Southeast 78th Place was arrested in a wooded area east of State Road 121 in Alachua County just north of the Levy County line.

Fletcher fled from his vehicle and had to be tasered to be subdued. He was hospitalized after stating that he had a heart condition and allegedly admitting he was under the influence of crack cocaine.

Alachua County deputies arrived to provide backup and took custody of Fletcher as he was being transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

A woman who was in the vehicle with Fletcher stated she had been picked up for a sex act. When Fletcher didn't provide compensation, the woman allegedly threatened that she had a gun. No gun was found. Fletcher's truck was towed.

Fletcher was charged with felony fleeting and eluding, loitering behind the church and resisting arrest. The woman's case is under review.

Other arrests announced by the WPD:

Patricia A. Sherman, 32, of Northeast 140th Court, Williston, was charged with petit theft, seven counts, and schemes to defraud, a felony. While an employee of Winn-Dixie, she allegedly rang up a gift card which she kept for herself, gave free merchandise to a friend and other incidents.

Maria Francisco Manual, 23, of High Springs, was charged with no valid driver's license and possession of a forged Florida ID card after being stopped for speeding 55 in a 35 mph zone.

Kelvin S. Hill, 25, of Northeast 40th Street, Williston, was arrested on a felony violation of probation warrant for battery out of Alachua County.
