They’re young and their dreams are lofty but the four men who want to spearhead a drive to build a recreation center in Williston are dead on the money.

We do need such a facility–one with a gym or multi-purpose room, a study center and a lounge. Our young people need somewhere to hang out that’s safe and local.

We live in a nation where more and more children are obese and could one day become obese adults who are at risk for high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease. An indoor facility where sports can be enjoyed year round, even in inclimate weather, is critical.

We salute Calvin Root, Robert Jones, Sean Hicks and Wesley Rizer for having the initiative to take matters into their own hands and create something functional and practical for the town they call home.

We encourage our government and business leaders to jump on the band wagon with these men, form a committee and conduct a feasibility study on the construction of a recreation center that will last for generations to come.

Our future depends on it.
