In a 3-2 vote Tuesday night, the Williston City Council elected to go with a tentative lower millage rate, despite concerns from the manager and finance officer who both asked for some "wiggle room."
Councilmen Jason Cason, Matt Brooks and Cal Byrd voted to approve a rate of 5.8627, which if finalized will garner about $4,000 less in ad valorem taxes.
The lower rate was approved based on the county property appraiser's projections of higher property values in the city. Last year's rate was 5.9025.
