It was a no muss, no fuss, no fanfare night Tuesday when the Williston City Council held its first public hearing on the 2013-2014 millage rate and budget.
With no one from the public speaking on the issue, the council approved a final millage rate of 5.9025 mills.
Council President Jason Cason explained the tax rate was the same as this year and property owners’ taxes would be about the same because property values have decreased.
In July, the council opted for a higher millage rate of 6.0708, knowing it could lower the rate but not increase it before the fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
Once the millage rate passed 3-0 (Cal Byrd and Elihu Ross were absent from the hearing.), the council then approved a tentative $12 million budget that shows a 13. 8 percent decrease in expenditures from this year.
A final public hearing will be held Sept. 24 at 6:50 p.m.
