Williston High School's boys are headed for the Class 3A, Region 2 semifinals after pounding visiting Interlachen, 67-29, Thursday night.
The next game for the Devils will be Tuesday night at home against P.K. Yonge, which defeated Union County by 11 points Thursday night.
WHS jumped out to a 19-6 first-quarter lead, and it was all downhill for the Rams after that. With a pressure defense and total dominance on the boards, Williston was never threatened.
In the first half there were 11 fouls called against Williston and only one against the Rams.
The only drama was when the Devils would reach the 35-point mercy-rule lead, and that came during the third quarter.
Deonte Welch led Williston with 18 points, followed by Isaac Floyd, who scored 11 despite having to sit some in foul trouble. Carlton Wilcox added 10 points, and C.J. James had six and Devin Timmons and Jawantis Collins five each. Added to the scoring list were Tony James with four, Jacques Edwards with fourand James Hunt and Anthony Brown with two each.
"It was about what we expected," coach David Vespignani said, "But I'm glad we played as hard as we did."
