With a 6-1 record in the district, the Williston baseball team is ready for a rematch with the team on top.
The Red Devils play host to Chiefland (7-0) tonight (Thursday) in a key district contest.
Williston picked up three wins in the past few days, including a 6-5 win over P.K. Yonge (see story below), a 10-0 whitewash of Fort White and an 8-1 win on the road at Dixie County Tuesday.
Danny Etheridge pitched a two-hitter and Trip Fugate hit a three-run homer as the Williston baseball team defeated Fort White, 10-0, Saturday night. The game was a makeup of a rainout from the night before.
The Devils batted only four times, but collected seven hits, including two doubles by Etheridge. They also benefited from seven walks and two hit batters from a trio of Fort White pitchers.
The Devils got one in the first when Tyrie Boyer was struck by a slow curve, took third on an Etheridge double and scored when Brent Stegall was safe on an error.
Five runs scored only two hits in the second, a single by Damon Ming, who had a perfect day at the plate, and the three-run homer by Fugate. Boyer walked with the bases loaded to get an RBI and Etheridge drove in another with a sac fly.
Three more scored in the third when Ming and Lawrence Jones walked, moved up on Brandon Scott's grounder, and Ming scored on a wild pitch. Boyer then dropped a single into left to score the other two.
The mercy-rule 10th run scored in the fourth as Etheridge doubled and Devin Timmons ran for him. A grounder moved him to third but he had to stay there on a bouncer to the pitcher. Chris Morrow walked and Ming collected a hit to drive in the run.
On Tuesday, the Devils whipped Dixie, 8-1, behind the pitcher of Boyer, who fanned five and didn't allow an earned run. Etheridge was 3-for-3 with a double and Charlie Hilton had a single and a double.
After the game with Chiefland, the Devils entertain Newberry on Tuesday.

The Williston Red Devils defeated P.K. Yonge 6-5 on Thursday night. Williston was down 5-4 going into the sixth inning, but was able to put together a two-out rally with timely hitting and aggressive running. Tyrie Boyer hit a stand-up double, and Trip Fugate's two-run double scored Boyer, while Danny Etheridge (who reached base on an intentional walk) scored from first base. Williston took the lead for good at 6-5.
Pitcher Brandon "Cornbread" Scott started the game and was relieved by Trip Fugate in the third inning. Fugate quieted the P.K. bats with effective pitching for three innings and got the win. Etheridge shut the door on P.K in the last inning to get the save.
Williston Head Coach Jim Smith commented "Trip Fugate came up big for us on the mound and at the plate; his home run got us started, along with his hit in the sixth." He also said "overall we were pretty sharp tonight" and "We're getting to where I thought we could be at the start of the season."
Trip Fugate had 3 hits including a home run.
Carl Gilley had 2 hits and scored a run.
