Members of the Levy County Enterprise Zone Development Agency (EZDA) Board of Directors voted 5-0 on Jan. 9 to recommend Berlon Weeks be appointed to the board.
The Levy County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to hear the recommendation on Jan. 22.
If the commission accepts the recommendation, then Weeks will fill the remaing term of Robert Lowyns who resigned.
Lowyns' term would have ended in 2010, EZDA Executive Director Pam Blair said. EZDA Chairman Skipper Henderson brought Weeks to the Jan. 9 meeting and told the board this is his choice. The person filling this empty seat must live in Economic Zone.
There are different categories for the various members of the EZDA Board of Directors. The board members present for the January meeting were Henderson, Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas, Levy County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer Lt. Sean Mullins, Levy County Code Enforcement officer Ted Parada and Sharon Battles of the Unity Family Community Center of Williston.
The EZDA members absent from the January meeting were Vice Chair Carol McQueen, who is executive director of Levy County Tourism Development, Andy Lott of Capitol City Bank, Marilyn Ladner of Central Florida Community College corporate training, and Cathy Roche of CLM One-Stop Workforce.
