No fish fry

at Holy Family

Holy Family Catholic Church will not be having a fish fry this week, April 10, Good Friday. The monthly events will resume on May 8.

Celeste to speak

at AARP meeting

AARP Chapter 912 meets on the second Monday each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church Hall. The speaker at the April 13th meeting will be Slande Celeste. She will give an update on Nature Coast Hospital’s 5,000-pound challenge. There will also be the annual appreciation awards presented to outstanding members of our local chapter.

Retired Educators

to travel to zoo

The Levy Gilchrist Retired Educators Association met at Billy Jack’s in Williston on March 16.

Guests for the occasion were Felice Swalla from the Trenton AARP. Guest speakers were Daine Dole and Rodger McDaniels. The topic was “friendly yards.”

The April 14 meeting will be a field trip to Santa Fe Zoo in Gainesville. The May 19 meeting will be held for scholarship applicants at Deke’s in Chiefland. On May 27-29 the state convention will be held at the Hilton in St. Petersburg.

Bronson bingo

is April 16

Bronson Homemakers will hold their annual bingo on Thursday, April 16 from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Levy County Extension Office at 625 N. Hathaway Ave. in Bronson.

This event is open to the public; the charge is $5 per person for 2 cards, $1 for each additional 2 cards. There will be prizes for winners.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Your generous support in the past is greatly appreciated, so come enjoy the fun.

There will be a 50/50, 2 raffle items, and craft items for sale.

Library presents

‘natural Florida’

Williston area resident Brack Barker will present a program on natural Florida for the Friends of the Williston Public Library on Thursday, April 16, 7 p.m. in the library.

Brack owns Wild Florida Adventures and conducts kayak tours and nature hikes in North Central Florida. He is a certified kayak instructor and teaches for Santa Fe College. He is also a member of Friends of the Williston Library.

He will talk about Florida’s natural resources and habitats and their importance. His talk will stress why it is important to protect our resources. A multi media presentation titled “Wild Florida, What Is Next?” will show images of places well-known, and those not so familiar.

This is the last program that “Friends” will present this season. As usual the program is free and open to the public.

set for April 18

A 2009 Day of Service for Childhood Development Services, Head Start/Early Head Start Program will be held Saturday, April 18 at White Rose Nursery Inc., 21770 N.E. 40th St., Williston.

Scout yard sale

to be on April 18

Boy Scout Troop 163 is planning to have a yard sale and bake sale on April 18 to send its boys to summer camp.

Do you have any unwanted or unused items around your home? Donate them to your local Boy Scout troop.

Genealogy group

meets April 19

The Levy County Genealogy and History Society will meet on Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at the Levy County Quilt Museum. Babs Robinson, our group’s president, will be exploring the use of old newspapers and the vast amount of information to be obtained from them for genealogical reasearch. Babs will share some of the gems she has found.

Anyone interested in joining the group is invited to attend.
