First-graders set patriotic program
The first-grade classes of Joyce Bullock Elementary will present a program of historical and patriotic music titled "America, Forever Free," Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Williston High School auditorium.
The program with the general theme of freedom, features Native American songs, early American songs, a song sung by African American slaves, as well as some beautiful patriotic selections. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy these young performers as they celebrate the freedom of our wonderful country.
Plow demonstration planned for Saturday
The Florida Draft Horse Pony and Mule Association will hold plowing demonstration at Cronen Cradle Conserve on Highway 318 about six miles east of Citra from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a non-smoking venue. The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, and is free to the public. For information call 352-466-9109.
Share changes site to Cornerstone
Beginning this month, the SHARE program is changing its Williston pickup site to Cornerstone Assembly of God, North State Road 121. For information, call Elsie Neal at 528-5709.
As a reminder, it is your responsibility to provide a box or container to put your unit in, one box per unit you are picking up.
Remaining pickup dates this year are Feb. 23, March 29, April 26, May 31, June 28, July 26, Aug. 23, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 22 and Dec. 20.
Sunday night video at Bronson church
First Baptist Church of Bronson invites you to a video series on Sunday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Some of the titles have been "How Does the Bible Speak to My Needs?" and "Can Men & Women Speak the Same Language?" February 24 is titled, "What Do You See in Your Mirror?" Nursery is provided and children from 2 years old to second grade have Sunday Movie Night with popcorn from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Children's Wing.
Draft horse group to hold club auction
Florida Draft Horse Pony and Mule Association will hold a club auction, open to the public, on Sunday, Feb. 24, starting 10 a.m. (consigning at 8) at Williston Horseman's Park. There will be horse-related items and other material to be auctioned off. Proceeds will be used for club activities.

AARP driver classes scheduled in area
Take an AARP Driver Safety class. Completing the two four-hour day course may entitle you to a multi-year auto insurance discount. For more information check with your insurance carrier.
The course fee is $10 per person and to register for a class, call the listed instructor.

Cemetery meeting set
The annual meeting of the Orange Hill Cemetery, Inc., will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Whitehurst Chapel. Everyone is invited to attend.
Diabetes cooking class scheduled
Do you or a loved one have diabetes? Do you enjoy food? The Levy County Health Department and The Levy County Extension Office are holding free diabetes cooking class on Feb. 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Levy County Extension Office located at 25 N. Hathaway (27A) in Bronson.
For people with diabetes, what to eat is always a big question. Learn how to cook with artificial sweeteners, low-fat products, herbs and spices. There will be cooking demonstrations and tasting of several recipes.

Last chance to give change to WES
Williston Elementary School and the PTO are co-sponsoring a "change drive" until Feb. 29. The money will go toward the purchase of a new riding lawnmower for the school. The current one is 14 years old and is on its last "tire." As this is not a budgeted item for the school it is in need of donations for this project.
If you have (or know) a student at the school you can send your extra change in with them. The classroom with the heaviest jar of change in each grade level will win a special treat.
If you do not have a student at the school but would like to help with this project, please send your donation to the school at 801 S. Main St., Williston 32696.
Bronson FFA grads to hold 'Food Fest'
The Bronson FFA Alumni will hold its sixth annual "Food Fest" fund-raiser on Friday, Feb. 29. The Food Fest will be held at the Levy County Extension 4-H Pavilion Pavilion, Alt. U.S. 27 just north of Bronson. Entertainment starts at 5 p.m., dinner served at 5:30 p.m. A sampling of local favorites will be prepared and served by alumni members and friends of the FFA. Woman's Club sets lunch, fashion show
The GFWC Williston Woman's Club will hold a luncheon and fashion show on Saturday, March 1. A limited number of tickets are still available for $15 each. Proceeds from the event, which will be held at the clubhouse on North Highway 121, will be used to fund a variety of club projects.

Pesticide training class scheduled
The Levy County Extension office will offer a pesticide training class on Saturday, March 1, starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Agricultural Center in Bronson.
Attendance at the meeting will qualify attendees for one core CEU and one private applicator CEU toward renewal of a restricted use pesticide license.
Persons desiring to renew their RUP license via testing or want to obtain an RUP license will have the opportunity to take the test during the RUP licensing/training session beginning at 9:45 a.m.

Clothing to be given away
On March 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a clothing giveaway at the Tri-County Pregnancy Center, 426 W. Noble Ave., across from the high school. The giveaway will consist of infant and children's clothing and accessories. For details call 528-0200.
The Tri-County Pregnancy Center is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Williston area for more than 10 years. It provides pregnancy testing, counseling, clothing and referrals to families in need.
Daddy's Sweetheart Dance set
Show her how special she really is ... fathers, uncles, grandfathers or anyone with a special girl is invited to spend an enchanted evening full of music, dancing, refreshments, photos and more.
The Daddy's Sweetheart Dance will be held Saturday, March 1 at the Williston Woman's Clubhouse. The dance is for girls from Pre-K to 5th grade and their special male role model in their life. The cost is only $10 a couple in advance and $15 at the door. Additional $5 if three or more girls will be in attendance per a father.

Easter egg hunt planned
A free Easter Egg Hunt is being planned for Saturday, March 8 at the Johnny T. Henry Celebration Park on Northwest 4th Street one block north of Noble Avenue and near the Williston Health Care Center.
The Rotary Club of Williston is hosting its third annual Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt will be held from 10 a.m. until noon at the park. The Easter Egg Hunt will commence at 11 a.m. sharp. The event is intended for children ages 10 and under. There will be three different areas for each age group. Kids three and under or those with a disability will have their parents accompany them on their hunt. Former Williston Council President Jake Cason will be grilling hot dogs for the children. Perkins State Bank is sponsoring a face-painting booth with clowns!
Food, ice cream, drinks and of course Easter eggs & baskets will be available at no cost. Donations and support have already been received from local businesses including Perkins State Bank, Capital City Bank and City of Williston for the use of the park and other resources. These and other donations will help ensure a successful community event.

Cantata rehearsals are under way
Rehearsals for the Williston Community Easter Cantata are being held on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 213 W. Noble Ave., Williston.
Churches involved so far are Holy Family Catholic, First Presbyterian and First United Methodist, but there's always room for more.
The cantata is Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.
Gardening program set in Yankeetown
The Friends of A.F. Knotts Public Library in Yankeetown invites the public to a library program featuring Florida professional gardener Jane Weber on Monday, March 17 at 1 p.m. She is a nursery owner, consultant, designer and an environmentalist in Citrus County. She will speak on planting drought tolerant, butterfly attracting, native plant species better adapted for our Central Florida yards.
Also on the agenda at the library is its semi- annual book sale April 5 through April 10. Any donations are greatly appreciated for this event. Thank you for supporting your public library system.

WHS Class of 1993 to hold reunion
The Senior Class of 1993 at Williston High School will be holding a 15-year reunion in April.
The date for the event has been tentatively set for April 19. Plans include a "family day" at Manatee Springs State Park during the day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the class plans to have a dinner and dance at the Williston Golf and Country Club that evening from 6 p.m. to midnight.
As mentioned, the date is tentative as is the location and events. The group needs help in locating numerous class members.

Collectors of sports and entertainment memorabilia always find unique items to bid on at ViVA! - A Bayou Bash, the annual benefit for Haven Hospice.
Last year's auction featured items signed by Urban Meyer, Arnold Palmer, Lynyrd Skynyrd and LeAnn Rimes.
The ViVA! 2008 auction includes a guitar signed by Richie Sambora, lead guitarist of the Bon Jovi band.
Tickets are on sale now for the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., Sat. Apr. 12, under the stars at the Rembert Farm in Alachua.
