Chili cook-off

is this Saturday

Amvets Post 88 of Bronson is sponsoring the Wild Hog Canoe and Kayak Race again this year. Proceeds will be going to Levy Association for Retarded Citizens.

The race will be held on Saturday, April 26.The race will start at the Waccasassa on State Road 24.

There will be a chili cookoff and classic car show on April 12, two weeks prior to the race to have the community aware. Trucks and Motorcycles are also welcome. This event will be held on the Amvets Post 88 property next to the Bronson Speedway. Proceeds from the chili cookoff and car show will also go to LARC. LifeSouth has agreed to be at this event also. There will be raffles, entertainment by D. J. Jeff, registrations for the Canoe Race and much more. Chili vendors will be able to sell their own chili after the judging.

Trophies will be awarded for both the chili cookoff and the car show. Amvets will also be selling chicken wings and french fries. For a fun day and good charity, please come. For information or any questions, please call the Amvets at 486-1642 after 4 p.m. Please help support our county.

Angel's House

will reopen

The Angel's House Thrift Store will reopen for business on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be household items, men's clothes, women's clothes, children's clothes, bedding and more.

After the opening the store will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located next to Holy Family Catholic Church, 17353 N.E. Highway 27A, Williston.

Church to hold

free health fair

Allen Chapel AME Church is hosting a free community Health Fair on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 48 N.E. Ninth St. in Williston.

There will be free education sessions on available local health services, men's and women's health, tobacco use and cessation, diabetes, depression, HIV and other topics. The Williston Fire and Police departments will be onsite for fire truck tours, fire safety, and stranger danger presentations. Games, face painting and health assessments will also be provided. New Life holds

evangelist program

The New Life Temple Fellowship Church, Inc., 131 E. Noble Ave., Williston, will hold an evangelist program on Saturday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Evangelist Sharon Sawyer.

Manatee program

due at library

Friends of the Williston Public Library will present "Manatees: Lookout Below!", a program on these ancient creatures who glide with great hulk just below the surface of Florida rivers. David and Susan Leach will present the pogram to answer what you need to know about manatees and how to photograph them in the wild.

Thursday night, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the library is where David and Susan will help with understanding what makes the manatees a beloved and yet threatened species of animal in Florida.

Clay pigeon shoot

is April 19

The Tri-County Pregnancy Center of Williston will hold its annual Rhino Outdoors Clay Pigeon Benefit Tournament on Saturday, April 19. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and shooting will start at 9. A barbecue lunch will be served. Lunch tickets may be purchased for those not shooting.

Shooter entry fee is $100 with ammunition, targets and lunch provided. Four-person teams and individual shooters are invited to register by calling tri-County Pregnancy Center at 528-0200. Shooting station sponsors advertising signs are available for a $100 donation. Your sign will be placed at one of the 14 shooting stations.

The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to join us on Thursday, April 24 for a Business After Hours event being sponsored by Preferred Land & Homes Real Estate located at 15 S.E. Fifth St., Williston.

The Levy County Cattlemen and Landowners Association is having its spring meeting at 7 p.m. on April 24, at Don Quincey's place on the Suwannee River. Anyone interested in joining is invited.

Williston Relay

team holds raffle

The City of Williston's Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society is selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a new "Wii" and a second controller. This is the now game. The price of the tickets is $5 per ticket with a 1 out of 200 chance to win. Remember the more tickets you buy the better your chances are to win. The drawing will be Friday night, April 18, at the 2008 Relay for Life Celebration held at the Williston Elementary School. You do not have to be present to win.

Senior Singles

The Williston Senior Singles are seeking those who wish to become members. The group meets at local restaurants and also has activities such as boat rides and picnics. Members from throughout the area are sought. For information call 495-1294 or 528-5407.

The Altar & Rosary Society of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church have begun a community project by collection Box Tops For Education to be donated to one of our local Dunnellon schools. Box Tops can be found on many products, including Cherrios (General Mills Products), Pillsbury, Kleenex, Cottenelle and Hefty Bag products.
