Chamber dinner is Friday night

The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce will be having its annual installation of officers banquet at Williston Crossings RV Resort on Friday, Jan. 25.

Admission is $25 per person, which includes dinner. Corporate sponsorship tables are available for $500.

Drawing for the Super $5,000 winner will take place that evening.

ESE parent panel to sponsor workshop

The ESE Parent Advisory Committee is sponsoring a "Make and Take" workshop on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Levy County Title I Parent-Teacher Resource Lab located behind the School Board office in Bronson.

Sherry Garnett, Title I Resource Lab specialist, will be available to assist parents in making academic learning games for all subject areas. The workshop will give parents the opportunity to make great resource materials that will assist them in helping their children at home in different academic areas.

Sporting clay shoot being held Saturday

Williston High School's baseball team is sponsoring the first Red Devil shootout sporting clay shoot on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Rhino Outdoors on U.S. 27. Registration is at 8 a.m.

There will be four-person teams at $75 per person or $300 per team (includes lunch) per 100 12 ga. Shot, additional charge for 20 ga.

Station sponsorships are $75 for repeater and $100 for new. A special deal for team registration and station sponsorship is $350 for repeater and $375 new.

All proceeds go to the WHS baseball team. There will be a high individual prize, high score team prize and a 50/50 raffle.

WYAA signups set

Spring sports registration for the Williston Youth Athletic Association will be held on two remaining dates in January:

Thursday, Jan. 24, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 26, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To register, each player will need a $75 registration fee ($55 for soccer) and a copy of their birth certificate.

Registration is for t-ball, soccer, baseball and softball. Ages are 4-5 for t-ball, 6-14 for the other sports.

Jones Temple revival

Jones Temple will hold a revival Jan. 29-31 at 7:30 p.m. nightly at the Jones Temple Church of God in Christ, 254 N.E. Ninth St., Williston. Speaker will be Supt. Reginald L. Williams Sr.

Calling All Artists

It's almost time for the annual 3-D competition and exhibition at the Cedar Key Arts Center scheduled for February. Pick up your registration form at the Arts Center or the Barefoot Artist Gallery. Work must be submitted no later than Wednesday, Jan. 30. Three works per artist may be submitted and there is a $5 fee per piece. All information is on the registration form.

TDC to meet

The Levy County Tourist Development Council will meet next on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Visitors Bureau Office, 620 N. Hathaway Ave., Bronson. Call 486-3396 for more information. The meeting is open to the public.

WMS Literacy Night to be held Thursday

On Thursday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m., Williston Middle School is holding its annual Literacy Night in the school's new cafetorium. This year teachers will be performing a play titled "Mysteries in the Middle." The audience will help the actors solve a mystery by using reading strategies to uncover clues. The performance will give parents strategies and skills to help their students become better readers just in time for FCAT testing. All students and their parents are encouraged to attend. The school's Junior Beta Club will provide dinner for $5 starting at 5 p.m.

WYAA raffle set

Ace Hardware is sponsoring a raffle for the WYAA. Raffle tickets are being sold for $10 for a stainless steel gas grill. Only 200 tickets are being sold. There are only 100 tickets left. Tickets can be purchased at Ace Hardware.

AARP Tax-Aide to begin Feb. 1

Free Tax Aide Preparation and E-file with AARP Tax-Aide begins Feb. 1.

Sites will be open at libraries in Trenton (Monday 1-5 p.m.), Cross City

(Tuesday noon-3 p.m.), Williston (Thursday noon-3 p.m.) and Chiefland

(Friday noon-4 p.m., Saturday 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.) throughout the tax season.

Tax-Aide serves taxpayers of all ages with special emphasis on those age 60

and older. Guidelines for Tax-Aide are posted at area libraries.

Saturday book sale to be on Feb. 2

Friends of the Williston Public Library will hold its next First Saturday Book Sale, Feb. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Hall Community Center.

Volunteers to help with the sale are asked to come to the center Thursday at 6 p.m. to unload books and begin setting up. On Friday at 9 a.m. volunteers are needed to sort books for display. Workers are also needed to help with the sale, Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The sale is one of the main sources of funding for "Friends" to help provide needed items for the library over and above those provided by the city and county.

Because books are donated for the sale the prices are very cheap. Hardback books are $1; softbacks, 50 cents; paperbacks, 25 cents and children's books and magazines are 10 cents. Puzzles, games and miscellaneous items are priced at $1 and below.

Fair group plans to hold yard sale

The Levy County Fair Association is planning a yard sale for Saturday, Feb. 2.

As of this writing the location has not been confirmed, but we are accepting any type of donations to be sold or raffled during the sale. If you have items or donations, please leave a message at our Fair Message Center at 486-3747. We will designate a drop off point in your area or arrange for a pickup.
