Undefeated Red Devil JV stuffs undefeated Newberry JV 38-22

On Sept. 29, the 4-0 undefeated Williston JV Football team traveled to Newberry to take on the 3-0 undefeated Panthers.
 The Red Devils never trailed in the game as the Panthers took the opening kickoff and drove to the Red Devil 35-yard line before Earl Brown picked off a Panther pass and returned the ball to the Panther 1-yard line. Tad Donald slipped into the end zone and the 2-point PAT made it 8-0 Red Devils.The Panthers showed why they are undefeated after three games, as they took the kickoff and drove to the Red Devil 1-yard line where quarterback Alex Wilkens punched the ball in for the Panthers touchdown.
 Djwin Perry ran the PAT to tie the score at 8-8 midway through the first quarter.Following the Panther kickoff, Red Devil Tad Donald took the hand off, broke several arm tackles and raced 71 yards to the end zone to put the Red Devils on the scoreboard again.
A PAT pass from Paul Battles to Brown put the Red Devils ahead 16-8. Neither team could produce another score in the second quarter as the first half ended. The Red Devils took the second half kickoff and turned the ball over to the Panthers on their first play from scrimmage.
The Red Devil defense stepped up and caught the Panther running backs for three straight losses, as they took over on downs. The Panthers starting quarterback Alex Wilkens was knocked out of the game on a solid tackle by the Red Devil defense. Gene Jordan took control of the Panthers offense and drove the team to the Red Devil 11 yard line where Perry found the end zone with 4:08 showing on the clock. Perry ran the 2-point PAT to again tie the game at 16-16.
The Red Devils took the kickoff and returned the ball to their own 38 yard line.
On the first snap, Devon Webb slipped around the right end and rambled 62 yards for a Red Devil touchdown. The 2-point run failed and the Red Devils now led 22-16 with 59 seconds left in the third quarter.The Panthers fumbled the football on their first play from scrimmage and the Red Devils recovered.With time running down in the third quarter, Quarterback Paul Battles cut outside and raced 38 yards for another Red Devil touchdown. Noah Faircloth crashed in for the 2-point PAT and the Red Devils now held a 30-16 lead as the third quarter ended.The Red Devil defense again stiffened and forced the Panthers to punt the football away. Tad Donald returned the punt for another Red Devil touchdown, but this score was erased on a block in the back penalty called by the sideline official. The Red Devils then started deep in their own end of the field following the penalty. The Red Devils drove the ball down to the Panthers 17 yard line with a nice sustained drive. Battles again  found the end zone from the 17 yard line for a Red Devil touchdown. Faircloth ran into the end zone for the 2-point PAT. With just under six minutes left in the game, the Red Devils had taken a 38-16 lead.The Red Devils were driving again with just over four minutes left in the game when they fumbled the football. The Panthers took over on their own 43 yard line. A nice pass from back up quarterback Gene Jordan to a wide open Josh Butler scored a 57 yard touchdown for the Panthers. The 2-point PAT failed . The Panthers had made it a 38-22 score with just over three minuted showing on the clock. The Panthers failed to convert on the on-side kickoff attempt. The game ended with the 38-22 score as the Red Devils remain undefeated for the season, now at 5-0. The Panthers slip to 3-1, losing for the first time this season.        The UNDEFEATED JV Red Devils will host Fort White on October 6, at Booster Stadium. Game time is 7 PM.
