It’s time again for politician wannabes to come forward and test the waters, as the city of Williston will hold a special election Sept. 25 to fill in the unexpired term of former Councilor Jerry Robinson who resigned last month for personal reasons.

At its regular meeting Tuesday night, the council members called for the election and set the date for Sept. 25.

Qualifying for the post will begin at noon Sept. 10 and close at noon Sept. 14 for Robinson’s seat that expires  in April 2013.

Since Robinson’s abrupt and unexpected resignation July 18, Vice President Norm Fugate has been filling the position of presiding officer at meetings.

The city’s charter states that in the event of a resignation, the council will call for an election at its next regular council meeting and the election must be held within 60 days of the call.

Council members also agreed that in the event Fugate is absent, the mayor will act as presiding officer.  The council may consider a new president and vice president at its Aug. 21 meeting.
