Riot halted at youth camp

Seven inmates at the Forestry Youth Camp in Inglis were charged after a disturbance on Monday, March 10.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Cpl. Bubba Well responded to the camp. Upon arrival he made contact with a detention officer who stated that the inmates walked out of their rooms with their shirts over the head and started beating on other inmate doors attempting to incite a riot. The defendants knocked down a detention officer during the disturbance and started throwing books, benches and broken pool sticks and a microwave. The damage was over $1,000 dollars and the defendants were arrested for the below charges and transported to the Levy County Jail.

Arrested were:

Ben Mango, 17, of Live Oak, battery on a detention officer, riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.

Raman Kinig, 16, Gainesville, Riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.

William Briscoe, who turned 17 on Monday, Gainesville, riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.

Joshua McKinnon, 16, Eagle Lake, riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.

Kwame S. Brown, 17, Live Oak, riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.

Devarius Strong, 16, Tallahassee, battery on a detention officer, riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.

Sebastian Starkey, 16, Bartow, riot, criminal mischief over $1,000.
