With just four district games remaining that don’t come until the month of April, the Williston Red Devil baseball team moved atop the regular season district Friday night.
The Red Devils faced the Fort White Indians at the Devils Den March 16, intent on getting revenge for their only district loss of the season.
The game was tied at 0-0 after two complete innings of play before the Red Devils opened the gates in the bottom of the third inning.
Conner Clayton led off the inning with a triple to the right field wall. Dylan Blalock followed with a sacrifice ground ball scoring Clayton for a 1-0 Red Devil lead.
Jared Caswell followed with a single and stole second base.  Max White slapped a single moving Caswell to third base. Both runners were advanced a base on a balk by the pitcher putting the Red Devils up 2-0.
The Indians collected their third base hit in the top of the fourth inning but failed to score.
In the bottom of the fourth Bradley Jones led off with a walk, followed by Justin Forsythe getting another walk, with no outs.
The Indians made a pitching change to try and slow the Red Devil momentum. Justin Baker greeted the new pitcher with a double, scoring one run and moving Forsythe to third base. The next pitch was through the catchers glove and Forsythe scored giving the Red Devils a 4-0 lead after four complete innings.
After holding the Indians scoreless in the fifth, the Red Devil bats continued to explode with action. The Red Devils collected three more runs, including a homerun over the left field fence by Christian Morris, his fifth home run of the regular season. Red Devil Justin Baker went the distance on the mound for the Red Devils as the Indians managed to pick up one run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Red Devils took the win 7-1 and stood atop the district with a 5-1 district record.
Following a tournament at Vanguard where the Red Devils will face Vanguard, West Port, and Good Pasture Christian they will return home to face Dunnellon March 29 and Citrus County March 30.
“We have four remaining district games beginning April 3 at Interlachen, April 5 at home against Keystone Heights and then we finish on the road at Santa Fe on April 9 and Bradford on April 10, said Coach Scott Hall following the game. “We will have to work really hard, and we will,” Hall continued.
