The game was between two teams that wanted to run up and down the court. The Williston Red Devils were hosting the 4A Lake Weir Hurricanes with a 5-1 season record.
Red Devil Jacques Edwards led the Red Devils in the first quarter as he dropped in 5 points in the first minutes of the game.
The Red Devils, after taking a 25-12 first quarter lead, appeared to be unable to rebound in the second quarter, as the Hurricanes made a constant run at the Red Devils getting third and fourth attempts off the offensive boards.
The Hurricanes led by a 15 point first half effort by Dee Lewis, pulled the game close at 37-34 at half time.
Struggling on the boards at both ends of the court, the Red Devils came out in the second half and improved their rebounding.
Three 3-point back to back to back shots by James Monroe and one 3-point basket by Paul King and Deterion Ross helped to spark a big second half for the Red Devils.
With the Red Devils winning 86-73, Head Coach Steve Faulkner said of the high scoring game, "We forgot to play defense tonight."
The Red Devils travel to 5A West Port High School Saturday, Dec. 18, for their next game. The JV game starts at 3 p,m, and the Varsity game starts at 5 p,m.
Monroe led the Red Devils with 19 points, Edwards had 15 points while Tre Wilson and Paul King had 11 points each. Lewis led the Hurricanes with 25 points.
In earlier action the Red Devil JV team led by Damien Strange (17 points) and Li-Darren Sams (15 points) ran away from the Lake Weir JV 71-46.
