On Friday evening the Williston Red Devils hosted and defeated  the Suwannee Bulldogs 3-1 at City Field.
The Bulldogs got out to a fast start as they had their first two batters reach base. They continued to move the base runners around but, could manage just one run as the Red Devil defense took over and ended the inning with a double play.
The Red Devils responded in the bottom of the first loading the bases with no outs on two walks and a single by Austin Etheridge. The Red Devil bats then went silent and the Devils could manage just 1 run to tie the game at 1-1.
Red Devil Coach Jim Smith was upset as he came to the dugout. "Bases loaded and no outs and all we can get is just one run," Smith said.
At least Smith was around to coach his team the remainder of the game as the base umpire ejected Ron Gray, the Suwannee coach following a few words thrown at him by the Bulldogs’ coach.
Neither team could score in the second inning and the Bulldogs threatened in the top of the third before the Devil defense stopped them.
Following another Etheridge single in the bottom of the third, Bradley Jones moved Etheridge to third with a single. Justin Baker scored Etheridge with a single moving Baker to second. Jared Caswell then picked up an RBI with a single for the second run of the inning for the Red Devils.
Leading 3-1 after three full innings it was the defensive play of both teams in the fourth and fifth innings that held the score at 3-1.
The Bulldogs made a come back effort in the top of the sixth inning with two outs. The next two batters were walked and the Bulldogs scored on a single to pull the game to 3-2.
The Red Devils could not answer in the bottom of the sixth inning leaving it up to the defense to stop the Bulldogs in the seventh and final inning.
The Bulldogs went three and out as the Red Devil defense preserved the win.
The Red Devils are now 3-1 in district play.
