Red devils roll on Senior Night

-A A +A

After playing one of their best games of the season, just one night earlier against Florida Air Academy, the Williston Red Devils faced an old rival in the Bronson Eagles on Senior Night.

The 14-9 Red Devils lost to the Florida Air Academy 71-67 after a tremendous comeback. With just over five minutes left in the third quarter the Red Devils were down 44-18. They began to rain in three-point baskets on every possession, and pulled to within three points at 67-64 with just over one minute left in the game. Although they came up a little short against the much bigger Air Academy, Coach Steve Faulkner was quick to celebrate the way his team came back so strong against the highly ranked 3A Air Academy.

But that was Wednesday night, and tonight is Thursday Jan. 30, and the Red Devils hosted the Bronson Eagles as they celebrated their five senior players.

After taking an early lead over the Eagles, the Red Devils never looked back as they rolled to a decisive 63-47 win, sending the Seniors, Keith Neal, D'onte King, Dimarkis Robinson, Alex Porter, and Earl Brown off to next week’s District Tournament on a winning note.

The Red Devil lead stayed around eight to ten points until they pulled away late in the final quarter.

The Red Devils were led in scoring by the smooth shooting Alex Porter with 16 points, Desmond Shanklin added 11 points while Malik Hall and Earl Brown each added ine points.

DJ Harris led the Eagles with 12 points and Ty Barber added nine points before fouling out.

The Red Devils finished the regular season District at 5-3 and will have a tough road as they travel to Union County, this year's host of the District Tournament. The Red Devils will face the Tigers of Union County, on Feb. 4. If the Red Devils advance, they will play for the District Championship at Union County on Feb. 8.

In earlier Senior Night action, the Red Devil JV team, led by a 30-point performance by Josh Battles coasted past the Eagles JV 71-44.
