The Williston Red Devil boys’ varsity basketball team played its normal aggressive and attacking defense while the North Marion Colts kept their two big men under the offensive board while avoiding any three second calls.
Getting one rebound and put back after another, the Colts hung in the game the first half strictly from the foul line.
The Red Devils were whistled for 14 team fouls to the Colts 6 team fouls and the Red Devils put the Colts in the bonus with six minutes remaining in the second quarter.
The Colts were 12 of 18 from the foul line in the first half, and the Red Devils shot just two free throws the entire first half.
The Red Devils held a 34-27 half time lead as Jacques Edwards and Paul King had hot hands for the Red Devils. Edwards had 11 first half points and King added 8 first half points including two 3-point baskets from long range.
As the two teams took the court to begin the third quarter they traded 3-point baskets as the Red Devils held a 37-30 lead.
The Colts then kicked their game into high gear tying the score at 37-37, forcing Coach Steve Faulkner to call a Red Devil time out.
Following the time out the Colts kicked their game up another notch and hit back to back 3-point baskets as the Red Devils watched their lead fall to 47-40.
The Colts rode a 26-point third quarter to take a 53-47 lead into the fourth and final quarter.
Playing from behind, the Red Devils seemed to be making too many turnovers and the Colts got several break-a-way lay ups, as they opened up and won the game 76-64, sending the Red Devils to the consolation round game on Tuesday Dec. 28, against either PK Yonge or Vanguard.
Edwards and Tre Wilson finished the game with 15 points each for the Red Devils. James Monroe who saw limited action finished with 9 points.
Jeramey Singleton had 17 points for the Colts and Sean Price had 11 points for the Colts.
