The Williston Red Devils won the class 4A regular season District Jan. 27, as they defeated the Bradford Tornadoes 69-58.
The Red Devils will host the district playoffs for the third straight year winning the regular season district.
The Red Devils jumped out to a quick lead as they held the 6'10” Bradford center Justin McBride to just seven first half points.
The big man could manage just one slam dunk in the first half and the Red Devils Brandon Preston answered his slam dunk with a 3-point basket.
The Red Devils were led by Damien Strange and Deterion Ross in the first half as Strange poured in 15 first half points and Ross added 10 first half points.
The Red Devils took a commanding 38-21 lead at the half time break.
The Tornadoes came out to start the second half with a strong effort on defense and they started to get the ball into the paint to McBride for several easy lay ups.
The Red Devils on the other hand were committing turn overs from the hard pressing Tornado defense.
The Red Devils held on for a 56-42 lead after three quarters of play.
The Tornadoes were not going away as the fourth and final quarter got underway. The Tornadoes began to show a renewed game as they forced the Red Devils in to four straight turn overs to start the fourth quarter, and they quickly cut the Red Devil lead to 58-51 with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
With four minutes remaining in the game Ross hit a driving lay up and McBride picked up his fourth foul.
The official then hit McBride with a technical foul which sent the big man to the bench with his fifth foul.The Red Devils took control of the game in the last three minutes and went back up by a 63-53 lead with just under two minutes remaining.
The Red Devils went on to finish the game with the win 69-58.Ross ended the game with 24 points and Strange had 21 points. Preston added 12 points.
McBride exited at the four minute mark with 22 points for the Tornadoes and Deonte Burch had 13 points for Bradford.
The Williston JV took on the Bradford JV in earlier action as Red Devil Josh Monroe continued his outstanding pay as he led the Red Devil JV team with 29 points as they downed Bradford 66-41.
Demarcus Robinson had 12 points for the Red Devils and Dylan Blalock added 10 points.
