Williston senior Rea Samuels has been considering her many options for the last several months leading up to her graduation from Williston High School.
A four year track and field star who has dominated her competition, Samuels has chosen to accept a four-year scholarship to attend McPherson College in McPherson, Kan.
Her father, Hector Samuels, spoke to the large crowd of family and friends who attended her signing  May 15, in the school cafeteria.
“I wasn’t sure till a couple of weeks ago where Rea was going to go. She had many Division I College offers to decide from. She is my baby, and Kansas is a long way off.  I can’t just hop in my pickup and go see her, but wherever she will be happy. Her mother and I will be happy for her also,” Samuels said.
McPherson Track Coach Cameron Magnall flew to Williston from Kansas to attend Rea’s signing. This was his second trip to Florida as he also came to the Levy County Track Meet in Cedar Key to watch his star recruit dominate her four events, taking first place in each and claiming the MVP at the Levy County Meet back in early April.
“Not only is Rea an outstanding athlete, but she also excels in the classroom as well, and she is just the kind of student athlete we want at our college,” Magnall said.
Becky Hilty, the Williston track coach, became emotional as she talked about the kind of student athlete Rea has been at Williston for the past four years.
“The leadership and dedication Rea has shown while at Williston High School and always making time to help her friends, makes us all so proud of Rea Samuels,” Hilty said.
