To our readers and advertisers:

The recent announcement by Landmark Communications Inc., the parent company of our newspaper, to consider strategic alternatives that might include the sale of this newspaper and others was made Jan. 3. The original announcement appeared on the Pioneer Web site at about noon on that date.

Landmark Communications Inc. announced that they had hired an investment banking firm to evaluate strategic alternatives that may or may not include the sale of Landmark business units including the Chiefland Citizen, Williston Pioneer Sun News, Cedar Key Beacon, the Citrus County Chronicle and 7 other weeklies in Florida, other daily and weekly newspapers across 12 other states, The Weather Channel and two CBS affiliates.

We want to reassure our communities that it will be business as usual at each of our local operations. The proposed sale is not expected to have any impact on our newspaper, its content or our advertisers.

We are committed to the business of producing a good quality newspaper. We have excellent people who are committed to the task of producing newspapers that reflect our communities. We will continue to produce newspapers that maintain the integrity that Landmark desires in each of its operations. We remain committed to serving our communities both financially and with leadership in community endeavors. We appreciate your support and welcome your feedback as always.
