News from the Levy County Fair

The Levy County Fair held the first of its four pre-qualifying karaoke contests on Monday, Sept 1. It was a great time with a supportive attendance. The Fair Association puts on these pre-qualifying contest in order to pick the top five singers, who will line up to compete during the Fair on Saturday, Nov. 1. They will compete to be crowned the greatest karaoke singer in Levy County. This year's prizes include nearly $1,000 in cash prizes, professional studio recording time at Sky Lab Studios in Gainesville, a spot to sing in the 2009 Fair and many other add ins that will make a great prize package for the top three. During this year's Fair come and enjoy Samantha Beckham (last year's second place winner) and Naomi Cahours (last year's third place winner. They will both perform separately following this year's contest. K country will be one of the sponsors for this year's contest and radio personality Lewis Stokes, a Williston native, has agreed to be one of our judges.

The top five winners from the Bronson event were Natalie Nicole Green, Sharon Erdman, Dawn Warsing, Karen Morgan and Brittney Miller. Natalie Nicole Green achieved the top score and will truly be a contender to be reckoned with at the fair! Each one will progress to the fair and compete for the finals. The remaining contestants do have the opportunity to try again at one of the remaining three locations before the fair.

The remaining pre-qualifying contest are as follows: Chiefland, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. at the Usher Center; Williston, Oct. 4, 1 p.m., during the Peanut Festival at the property between Levy Insurance and the County Tag Office. The Williston event will be unique as we will be hosting a Jr. Karaoke Contest at 11 a.m. prior to the full contest. The juniors ages 12 and under will compete separately at this event for a spot to sing at the fair and a prize package of their own. The final contest will be in Cedar Key Oct. 11, 1 p.m. at the Coconuts Club. Lawn Tractor Pulls return to the Levy County Fair

Get your mowers ready for the Second annual Lawn Tractor pulls. This year we plan to host the greatest pull our fair has seen yet. Tech and weigh-in will start at 10 a.m.; the pulls will begin at noon, all on Saturday Nov. 1, during the 2008 Fair. Something for everyone, Youth, Stock, Modified and Super Modified Divisions. Entry fee will be $10, which covers your Fair admission and first pull, than $10 for each hook after (3 hook limit). Trophies for 1-3rd in all classes, Sponsored by Davis Small Engine Repair.
