On Friday, March 16, 793 copies of Levy County: Voices From the Past arrived in Levy County. Because the shippers required a dock, the books were delivered to the dock of the Levy County School Board. They were immediately taken to an air-conditioned place for storage in Morriston.

The 283-page hardcover book, its text printed on acid-free paper, is priced at $40. The narrative is based on family stories contributed to the author, Drollene P. Brown. As a special offer, anyone purchasing "Voices" can buy a companion volume, Williston: Crossroads of Florida, for an additional $40. "Crossroads" purchased alone costs $57.

As a way to promote Levy County, four of the five chambers of commerce in Levy County - those in Cedar Key, Chiefland, Fanning Springs and Williston - have books on hand for purchase. The Withlacoochee-Gulf Chamber of Commerce, located in Inglis/Yankeetown, has chosen not to participate.

Anyone desiring an autographed copy of the book is invited to come to the "First Saturday" book fair sponsored by the Friends of the Williston Public Library on April 5 and/or May 3. Brown will be present both days to autograph books sold there and to autograph books purchased elsewhere. She will also be present at family reunions and other meetings that invite her to speak. She may be reached at (352) 465-4862.

The Levy County Public Library system, authorized by the Levy County Commissioners, has purchased a set of these books for each library. These were delivered to the office of Director Bonnie Tollefson on March 16. After they have gone through the cataloguing process, they will be available for reference in each library in the county.

To purchase books by mail, one may contact Southern Heritage Press at P.O. Box 10937 / St. Petersburg FL 33733 or (800) 282-2823. Order forms may be picked up in any Levy County public library.
