A 63-year-old Fanning Springs resident has been charged with impersonating a police officer, and luring and enticing a child into his vehicle.
Levy County Sheriff's Investigator Lauree Allen arrested William Silas Johns July 10 on the charges.
The 6-year-old girl who reported the July 2 incident was not physically harmed, according to a sheriff's office press release.
The child was riding a bicycle when a white male driving a blue or black pickup truck passed her several times, then stopped and asked if she wanted to go to the store and get some candy, according to the release.
When the girl refused, she was ordered into the truck. Once inside, the suspect pulled up his shirt, showed her a badge, and stated "Its okay I'm a cop," according to the release.
The man took the girl to the Tackle Box store where he purchased candy, then returned her to the spot where she left her bicycle beside the road.
Johns is being held at the Levy County Jail on $17,500 bond.
