Staff Report

An alleged carjacker was arrested April 11 after he crashed the vehicle he allegedly took from Hilltop Motel.

According to Williston Police Chief Dennis Strow, police officers were responding to the report of the carjacking when they saw the stolen truck turning north on Main Street.

When officers attempted to stop the stolen truck, the suspect vehicle fled north on SR-121 toward Gainesville. The pursuit of the stolen truck was terminated due to the reckless manner in which the vehicle was being operated along with inclement weather at the time. Alachua County authorities were notified of the incident.

A short time later, Alachua County authorities were notified of a traffic crash on S.W. 62 Ave several miles north of SR-121 involving the stolen truck. The stolen truck struck another vehicle on S.W. 62 Avenue, which caused significant damage to both vehicles; however no one in either vehicle was injured, Strow said.

Upon arrival of Alachua County deputies, the driver of the stolen vehicle, Jaakrri Devontate Middleton, 21, of Gainesville was located and taken into custody without incident.

Williston Police officers responded to the crash scene and charged him with armed carjacking, grand theft, reckless driving and fleeing/eluding law enforcement.
