Williston Students of the Month

By Pat Hibbs

At Tuesday evening’s Williston City Council meeting, Mayor R. Gerald Hethcoat presented the council’s May Student of the Month awards.

Hadley Etheridge, a first grader at Joyce Bullock Elementary School, is the daughter of Todd and Danielle Etheridge.

She was nominated by Patty Griffith, her teacher, who made the following comments: “Hadley has had a very successful year in first grade. She works very hard to master new skills as they are taught. Hadley never gives up and always puts forth the extra effort needed to master those skills. Hadley is also very responsible. She completes her work, whether it is homework or class work, in a timely matter. Hadley takes pride in her work and learning. Lastly, Hadley is very well liked by her peers and staff members at JBES. She follows the ABC’s of our school and sets many positive examples for others to follow. Hadley is every teacher’s dream.”

Williston Elementary School’s May winner is Ashley Hoyt, who could not attend the meeting. She is the daughter of George and Cristina Hoyt and is in the fifth grade

Mrs. Laura Helgerud, Ashley’s teacher, said, “Though Ashley is not the traditional ‘teacher’s pet’, her classroom teacher knows she can always count on Ashley to get a message delivered or an errand run in a timely fashion and to complete her assignments both in class and at home ... always. Ashley is also part of the Enhanced Learning Program (ELP) for gifted students and has been selected as a member of the school’s safety patrol. Ashley has enthusiastically participated in ELP since third grade, always going above and beyond to complete projects thoroughly and creatively. Ashley is the kind of student that remind us teachers why we love to teach; she makes our job fun and rewarding, and she appreciates us as much as we appreciate her. “

Yaneira Campagne, daughter of Sonia Castro, is in the seventh grade at Williston Middle School.

Morgan Bennett nominated Sonia and made the following comments. “Yaneira is a seventh grader at WMS. She consistently produces some of the best work of whatever class she is in. She is polite and courteous at all times and cares about other students. As a peer, she has helped other students learn a great deal. She is also active in the Junior Beta honor society. We are proud to have her as a student at WMS!”

John Lott, principal of Williston High School, nominated Jordan Webb, a senior, as May’s Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Rick Webb.

Lott said, “It is my sincere pleasure to recommend Jordan Webb as the Student of the Month at Williston High School. As a student, Jordan has continued to put forth great effort and has demonstrated integrity and great work ethics while a student at Williston High School. She has maintained a GPA of 3.28 while taking advanced classes. She is well liked by her peers and a joy to have in class. Jordan is employed by her father’s dry cleaning business and is also an avid Gator fan.”
