Outboard Rehab

By Steve Jarboe

A lifelong dream shared by partners Eric Lane and Tom Jefferson has recently produced a new business located on State Road 24, just west of the Bronson Speedway.

Both Eric and Tom have set out to fill a void in the marine industry. “Bronson is the Gateway to the Gulf,” said Eric, and this is why we chose Bronson to open Outboard Rehab. While there is one major marine center in Gainesville, another in Ocala and Old Town, none have, until now located in the corridor between Gainesville and the Gulf Coast. Eric and Tom hope Outboard Rehab will fill this void.

Eric and Tom both have extensive knowledge and experience in the boating industry, going back as far as 40 years. Boating has been a part of their life’s work and passion.

Eric, was raised in the Marco Island area and soon became an avid (and very excellent) fisherman at a young age. Eric was introduced to the world of boating, and went to work in the boating industry where he became involved in many aspects of marine sales and service. A single dad, Eric’s love of boats is rivaled only by his love of music. He is an active member of the local band, “Fast Lane.”

Tom is a Florida native, father of three and has seven grand children. Tom began working at a tackle shop in a marina in the Florida Keys. Tom expressed an interest early in his life to become a marine mechanic, and soon realized his goal. His services in the Keys were well known and respected. He worked for several different marinas before deciding to open his own facility. After gaining some 20 years experience in the Keys, Tom moved his family to the Archer area. Tom ran a successful home based marine business for about 15 years before zoning laws forced him to close.

Eric and Tom met at another marine repair shop and soon became dissatisfied with the poor service being provided to the customers. They put their heads together and soon hatched Outboard Rehab.

The business opened at its present location in Bronson in October just a few months back. The business has grown rapidly and the partners have had to hire an additional technician, as well as a fiberglass repairman.

At Outboard Rehab you will find friendly, prompt and courteous service. They provide a full range of services, including Tune-ups to complete rebuilds, with a small machine shop on the premises. They also offer fiberglass repair as well as complete detailing and cleaning. Trailer repairs from lighting to axle replacement and bearing service.

A Ships’ Store is in the immediate plans for those necessary boating supplies.

Outboard Rehab also offers expert “Lettering and Graphics.” Boat storage is also available as they provide an excellent location on the way to various fishing locations, including Cedar Key and others on the Gulf Coast.

Eric and Tom invite you to stop by Outboard Rehab, or give them a call at 352-486-3636.
