To the editor:
The other day while I was at the post ofice, I noticed an advertisement flyer for their new “Go Green” stamps. This was double-sided 8.5”x3.75” multi-colored flyer.
I realize that we (the general public) must purchase stamps to put our correspondence into the postal delivery system BUT this is a government monopoly and does not need to advertise their product. Where or who do we go to if we need stamps–the USPS (and their distributors) because only they can produce and sell the product–the STAMP.
Every day we hear the woes of the postal service and how they are spiraling into debt by the millions. Closing postal offices, laying off postal workers, reducing office hours, threatening to deliver only Monday through Friday etc. and still they continue to produce new stamps and raise postal rates.
Perhaps it is time for the USPS to stop paying for these ridiculous designs (there are millions of dollars associated in producing a new stamp) and just stick with the basic design and the “Forever” stamps. It is also time to rein in the “free” mailing for government departments and second class bulk mail, but that is a subject for another time.
Our postal service has allowed UPS, Fed Ex and others to take over their monopoly with little or no resistance, all the while enjoying the continued protection of the government and bleeding lost revenue each day.
Remember it is our money that finances the government.
Do you want your hard earned money to be used for a new stamp design every other week.
