Lee Sullivan, a graduate of Chiefland High School, has declared his intent to run for Levy County Sheriff.
In a press release this week, Sullivan wrote, “My name is Lee Sullivan, I started my law enforcement career in Levy County where I grew up and graduated from Chiefland High School and I hope to complete my career as Levy County Sheriff.
“After high school, I served in the United States Navy as a Seabee and upon my return to Levy County in 1981, I worked in construction and gunsmithing.
“I realized that my heart was in service to our community so I started my law enforcement career as a Corrections Officer with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office and then moved to Marion County when I was offered the opportunity to become a patrol deputy.
“The preceding 27 years have shown me how much law enforcement and corrections have changed. With ever changing technology and the demands of doing more with less, I have the experience and skills to lead the Levy County Sheriff’s Office through these tough economic times.
“My record as a leader is well documented; I have worked and/or supervised almost every area of law enforcement.
“I worked for a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Leo University and continued my education by earning a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University.
“I am committed to the advancement of law enforcement and teach as an adjunct professor for the University of North Florida where I instruct a variety of law enforcement related classes.
“As a recognized subject matter expert in the field of drug enforcement, I have instructed drug unit commanders from all over the country on how to effectively and efficiently manage a drug unit.
“The Office of Sheriff serves the people of Levy County. This means all the people. I am running for sheriff with no party affiliation because I want to be Sheriff of all the people of Levy County. I will be your fair and impartial sheriff. Your Sheriff’s Office with Lee Sullivan as sheriff will be professional, accountable and transparent.”
