A crowd of family, friends and tournament golfers gathered at Williston Highlands Golf and Country Club last Saturday to see one of their own, the late Alton Geiger, honored.

Geiger's wife Becky was presented a plaque by W.D. Hinkle of Wildwood.

The weekend event was the 40th annual Bob Mixon tournament, named after the club's first pro.

Hinkle has been responsible over the years for the advancement of the tournament.

Geiger, who died recently, ran the tournament in its early years, according to Greg Brochetti, president of the club's board. He was a charter member of the club and, according to Brochetti, "one of the most popular people to come through here."

Hinkle, who is turning 90 this year, has urged golfers from his area to compete in the annual tournament in Williston.
